How to Start a Successful Travel Website for $99
How to Setup Your Website ($39.95 + $5)
Before you can start expressing your enthusiasm and passion for travel, you need a place to do it. Although there are places to setup a free blog, most of them limit your flexibility quite a bit. One decent site for making money without having to pay anything to get started is HubPages. If you are interested in this, read my article on how to make money with HubPages.
For those who would like full control over their website, there are three things that you will need: 1) a domain name, 2) hosting, and 3) wordpress (the best free platform for making websites). It might sound complex, but it’s really not that difficult.
Step 1: Purchase a Domain and Web Hosting ($39.95)
Although I originally used Godaddy for most of my website needs, there prices just continue to get more and more expensive. Therefore, I have worked with a great service to provide hosting for myself, that I am able to offer to you as well. Check it out here.
One year of hosting costs $33, and the domain is only $6.95 for a .com – which is half of what GoDaddy charges. Therefore, the total cost for a domain name and one year of hosting is $39.95!
You are welcome to use other hosting if you find something that you like, but I have been incredibly happy with our service. These guys host millions of websites and offer great customer service. To access the great deals that we are able to provide you with, visit the page.
Step 2: Install WordPress ($5)
WordPress is the most used platform for blogs and websites online. Because it allows anyone to setup and manage a website, without having programming experience, it is a great find. Furthermore, with all of the different themes and plugins, you can make anything from a blog, to a store like amazon, to a social networking site like Facebook.
Most hosting companies make it easy to install WordPress for free (if you use the service we use, it’s incredibly easy). If you have problems with installing it, or if you want to learn more about what it can offer you, visit WordPress.org.
FOR WEBSITE FLIPPERS: If you are interested in selling your website at some point in the future, make sure that you use WordPress. It’s easy for anyone to pickup, multiple accounts can be created for content creators, and changing styles and themes takes no more than a few clicks.
In short, you want to install WordPress to allow you to access and manage your website. And don’t worry, when you install WordPress on your server, you will receive an email with more tips on how to get started.
Although I am not including this in the cost of setting up your website for $99, if you need assistance installing WordPress, there are some great Fiverr gigs that you can purchase. These guys will install WordPress for $5! Check them out:
