Height adjustable desks used to be expensive, a bit “unusual” and used by a limited number of office workers. These day’s they’re far more mainstream both in the office and at home. There are dozens of firms and many more variants to choose from – many that will set you back a pretty penny.
Before investing in my height adjustable desk I spent a few years toying with the idea. It was an expensive luxury at the time and a little unusual besides. Most options I came across were several hundreds of pounds/dollars. Some with expensive solid wood finishes and fancy features that I didn’t care for. Others seemed to be far too limited:
- A crank handle to raise and lower the desk
- A height adjustable desk converter (which sits ontop of the desk and limits space, and positioning)
- A wooden slot-based contraption that you set to fixed heights
- A cardboard based standing desk (which I did try, but found a little limited)
Are we not all different heights? As someone who has worked at computers for years and suffered discomfort I needed a desk I could adjust easily to the right height for me. If it wasn’t easy I knew I wasn’t going to switch often. I knew from research that neither standing or sitting all day was ideal for comfort; a mixture of both was best.
After months of extensive research I decided on a company called Flexispot.
Flexispot has offices and distribution centers across the world, including the USA, UK, Germany, Japan and more; that’s a good sign. But their reviews stack up well too.
Flexispot are reasonably priced and have a good selection of products (depending on your budget).
Choosing the right desk from Flexispot
I started with the E1 range EC1 desk (now replaced by EG1, EZ1, EF1), a mid-range option in the smallest size.
It has a height range from 71-121cm.
This model offers a control panel with memory presets as well as quick and control up and down.
The E1 range can be purchased as a frame-only option, so you can use your own desktop (which I already had), or get one from anywhere else if you wish.
The worktops sold by Flexispot are quite thick and add additional height to the desk that I didn’t really want.
Sometimes you want more control
I later upgraded to an E5 frame to have a greater control in the height. I found that in addition to the frame height, the desktop then added to this, so a frame that could go lower meant a lower overall height.
It has a height range of 62 – 125cm.
Review of the Flexispot E1 and E5
Both frames were very easy to put together. They are solidly built and clearly very robust; I don’t worry about my computer suddenly collapsing to the ground when I leave it up overnight.
The frames are both very quiet and quick to raise and lower. The pre-sets make life a lot easier and are definitely worth having in my opinion, so you can easily switch between your preferred sitting and standing heights.
The cable tidy with the E5 frame made it easier too.
The sit/stand reminder is nice, it’s just a shame that you have to keep manually setting it. Simply put it’s not that intelligent. But for the price, it’s not a big issue. The quality of the desk far surmounts any need for a particularly fancy reminder in my opinion – especially since I can get one on my phone, or computer.
30 Day money-back guarantee
I didn’t know if I was going to get on with the desk before I ordered it., I have tried a few desks over the years, and some that I just didn’t get on with; it needed to be right. But the promise of a 30 day money-back guarantee “for any reason” sealed the deal for me.
- 30 day money-back guarantee (minus shipping) if you are unsatisfied
- Lots of options, colors etc.. to choose from
- Reasonably priced
- Well build and backed by generous parts guarantees
- Established brand – lots of sales, if something is wrong you’re in good hands
- Frequent sales, discounts and giveaways
- Good customer support (and live chat)
- A large product range
Flexispot has a growing range of height-adjustable bike/desk hybrids, children’s desks and more. They’re certainly not small time, they’re for the masses.
I’ll admit I haven’t tried any of the other height adjustable desks on the market but I have certainly seen what is on offer. When I brought my desk FLexispot was clearly the best of the bunch. For my money I’d say you could do a lot worse than a desk from them.
Of course you can decide for yourself but if you were thinking of buying a height adjustable desk and weren’t sure what to choose, hopefully this review has been helpful to you.
