100 Days to 5000 Daily Visitors, Day 10: Write Guest Posts

Guest Post Your Way to Success

There are three ways that we stumble across new content online:

  1. We do a search and the website shows up (near the top).
  2. We discover something that is shared on our social networks.
  3. We see a link to the new content from a website that we visit.

Although there used to be shortcuts (often spammy) to show up at the top of Google, it now takes time. Too many “SEO” experts were cheating the system to get crummy content to the top. Therefore, Google has worked hard to adjust their search algorithms.

Writing high quality content that people find interesting is a great way to start spreading on social networks. However, viral content only works with certain content. If I find a great article on landscaping I probably won’t share it because my friends aren’t interested.

Therefore, one of the best ways to get interested readers to your website is by guest posting on related sites. Someone who wants to backpack Europe will go to a variety of websites. If you, even with a relatively new website, have written a great article for another site, it is likely that they will click through to see what other content you have written! Additionally, these backlinks will likely still benefit your website.

Guest Post Writing Tips

If you are going to write a guest post in an effort to attract more visitors to your own website, you will want to do the following:

1. Find Related Websites

Obviously you will not want to post your fashion article on a landscaping blog, but you may be able to post it on a travel or photography site – if the content can be related. Additionally, you want to find websites that will bring in a new audience. However, don’t expect to post your article on the most popular blogs just yet. Maybe in the future.

2. Contact Multiple Websites

After you find several decent websites, start sending emails with article proposals. Not all websites will be interested in having you guest publish. However, send requests with potential article titles. This way, the website owner will know if your content sounds interesting right away – don’t make them try to guess what you’ll write about.

3. Show Potential Websites Your Current Work

When contacting a potential guest posting site, send a link to your blog so that they can see your work. If you are writing well, they will be more likely to add your content then if you don’t have any writing published yet.

4. Write GREAT Content for Guest Posts

Has someone agreed to accept your guest post? Then make it an exceptional article. Don’t save the best articles for your own website, provide fantastic work any time you guest post. Not only will this encourage the blogger to accept more work from you in the future, but it will motivate readers to click through to your website.

5. Respond to Comments

Keep an eye on any article that you guest publish and respond to comments. If people see you actively involved on other people’s websites, they will recognize you as even more of a professional.
